A concerned man has called on the Bayelsa State Government and relevant authorities to urgently fix dangerous potholes on a major road leading to Nembe, warning that the damaged portion could cause a disaster if left unattended.
In a now-viral video posted on X by #ChuksEricE on Monday, the man was seen standing inside a deep pothole, lamenting the poor state of the highway and appealing for immediate intervention.
According to him, the pothole is more than one metre deep and is one of about three deep potholes on that road.
“This is a very big pothole at the centre of the road leading to Nembe City… this place will cause disaster,” he said in the video.
He expressed frustration that, despite the visible danger, the authorities and the construction company responsible for the road have continued to ignore the issue, even though they use the route regularly.
“The company that constructed this road uses this place every day. They are passing here, and look at the disaster this place will cause,” he said.
The man specifically called on opinion leaders, chiefs, members of the council of chiefs and the relevant committee behind the construction of the road to put pressure on those responsible to repair the failed sections.
“They should do something about this road. They should come and fix this place,” he stressed.
He warned that several people, including children, community leaders and other road users, pass through the area daily, making the road a ticking hazard.
“Our loved ones are passing here, our leaders are passing here, our children are passing here. They should come and do this road,” he pleaded.
