EFF leader Julius Malema has been sentenced to an effective 5 years’ imprisonment in the East London gun case.
His Full judgement:
• Count 1: 5 years
• Count 2: 2 years
• Count 3: R20,000 or 6 months imprisonment
• Count 4: R20,000 or 6 months imprisonment
• Count 5: R20,000 or 6 months imprisonment
All sentences will run concurrently, meaning the effective sentence is 5 years.
The court also ruled that he is unfit to possess a firearm.
This follows his conviction for unlawfully firing a rifle at a public event.
The matter may still proceed to appeal.
