Whare Is the Money Collected for Building Northern Bahr el Ghazal University–Aweil?
By Dr. Angelo Anguei Aguer, Teaching Assistant
University of Bahr el Ghazal, College of Medicine and Health Sciences.
For years, the people of NBGS-Aweil have contributed—financially, morally, and emotionally—toward the dream of building a university in our land. Funds were collected with hope. Communities sacrificed what little they had, believing they were investing in the future of their children. Today, one painful question echoes louder than ever: where is that money?
This is not just a question of accounting—it is a question of trust.
When money is collected in the name of public development, especially for something as critical as education, it carries the weight of responsibility. Every coin given by a struggling parent, every contribution from civil servants, and every donation from well-wishers was made with a clear purpose: to see a university rise in Aweil. Yet, the reality on the ground tells a different story. Progress is slow, unclear, or, in some cases, invisible.
The lack of transparency surrounding these funds raises serious concerns.
How much was actually collected?
Who was responsible for managing it?
Where was it allocated?
What tangible work has been completed so far?
These are not unreasonable questions—they are the rightful demands of the citizens of Aweil.
Silence from the responsible authorities only deepens suspicion. In any functioning system, public funds must be tracked, audited, and reported openly. Without this, even genuine efforts can appear questionable. And where accountability is absent, mismanagement—or worse, misuse—becomes a real fear.
The Need for Immediate Accountability
The people of NBG/Aweil State deserve clarity. Not tomorrow, not next year—now. There must be:
A full public financial report on all funds collected
Independent auditing of the accounts
Clear updates on how the money has been used
A realistic plan for completing the university
Transparency is not a threat—it is a duty.
Our future depends on what we demand today.
